It is a proven fact that homes that go up for sale in the summer get better offers than those that sell in the w inter. If you’re looking to sell your home right now, this is great news. If you’re looking to buy a home, this might be a bit discouraging. Don’t let this get you down, however, there are great deals to be found and I am going to share three ways to help you chase and catch your dream of buying a home that is also a deal this summer!
1. Seek out older listings. Homes that have been on the market for more than 50 days are more likely to consider offers that are below the asking price. While these offers are not always accepted, the chances of picking up a deal using this method are greater.
2. Go house hunting on unpopular weekends. Avoid the bidding wars, the crowded open houses, etc. by shopping for a home on holiday weekends, like 4th of July. In fact, shopping for a home on any Sunday during the summer will lead you to superior results.
3. Think about creative options. I have heard of one buyer offering the seller a lower price but with the use of his own summer vacation home in Hawaii for two weeks in the summer for the next three summers after a sale. If you have something to offer the seller, why not think creatively and see what deals can be had? It might not work, but it may – just make sure to check with your real estate professional to ensure everything is on the books and legal.
Until next time,
